Readers' Theatre

So…What is Readers’ Theatre Anyway?

Have you ever wondered how actors prepare for a staged production? Readers’ Theatre is one way of discovering part of this process. As actors read from scripts using stands, extra attention is focused on the playwright’s words and intentions. In this informal setting, audiences are allowed to experience theatre in a whole new way.

By eliminating the spectacle of full sets and costumes (some minimal prop and costuming can be used), actors have the benefit of claiming the role and in doing so, you, the audience, are taken away by deeper character development, soon forgetting that scripts are being used. Experience a Coaster Readers’ Theatre production at Coaster Theatre Playhouse, or other local venues, this 2008 season!

Currently scheduled performances:

Mass Appeal
By Bill C. Davis
April 17 – 19 at Coaster Theatre Playhouse
Performances at 7:30pm

The Coaster Theatre will be presenting MASS APPEAL, the third in its series of Readers’ Theatre Productions, on April 17 and 18 at 7:30 p.m. at the Coaster Theatre, and on Saturday, April 19th at the Community Presbyterian Church in Cannon Beach.
MASS APPEAL, by Bill C. Davis, was a hit on Broadway 25 years ago, and was later made into a motion picture starring Jack Lemon.  Ideology and personality collide between an older priest and a young seminarian, as each tries to force the other to be a good priest.  They both learn, in unexpected ways, the nature of courage, friendship and, above all, staying true to oneself.  Bonnie Lively directs Coaster veterans Dean Barr as Father Farley and Don Seybold as Mark Dolson, the seminarian.
Tickets are $10.00 and can be purchased on our Box Office page , or at the theatre box office at 108 N. Hemlock Street.
