Maurie Clark opened the Coaster Theatre Playhouse in 1972 and thirty-six years of performances are a tribute to his passion and commitment to supporting community theatre in Cannon Beach. Upon his death in 2001, Coaster Theatre became a non-profit organization and the Coaster Theatre Foundation was established to support its continuing operation. Their mission is to build an endowment that will support the over $100,000 of annual operating costs that keep theatre alive in Cannon Beach.
WHAT IS AN ENDOWMENT?
The most compelling task facing the arts is to endow the future. Arts organizations are the cultural legacy of our society and endowments are the pathway to building capacity for arts organizations. An endowment fund is the capital that provides a permanent source of income for an institution, providing financial stability during the ups and downs of the economy, so that programs can continue without interruption. Growing and leveraging the endowed assets of Coaster Theatre is essential to the health of the entire region’s art community. Protect our heritage so future generations can have the same opportunities to discover live theatre and enjoy year-round performances in Cannon Beach.
